The Downing Foundation
Supporting initiatives. Impacting lives.

Kansas Humane Society

The Downing Foundation played a pivotal role in launching our campaign for a new shelter.  Not only did they commit a substantial gift early in the fundraising process, but their willingness to engage other community leaders in this project substantially increased our ability to meet our campaign goals.

The Downing Foundation's support also helped KHS gain credibility with other major donors and the community as a whole.  When the Downings embrace a project, it indicates to the public that it will be both successful and fill an important community need.

Since opening the Murfin Animal Care Campus, one of the first private/public partnerships in the nation, the Kansas Humane Society and Wichita Animal Services have worked together to achieve significant progress in saving animal lives.

  • The number of lost, stray and homeless animals coming to our campus for services decreased by more than 5,000 animals;
  • Approximately 100,000 unwanted kitten and puppy births were prevented annually by spaying/neutering 9,000 pets; and
  • Most importantly, we are saving more animal lives than at any time in our organization’s history.

We are grateful to the Downing Foundation for their leadership and support of our project!
