The Gatson Siblings’ Story

The funding from The Downing Family Foundation has helped Real Men, Real Heroes make a difference in the lives of area youth through tutoring, mentoring and speaking programs. For example,   Real Men, Real Heroes is able to accomplish its mentoring goals through the Future Heroes program, designed primarily for boys ages 10 to 14.  A few of the goals from our program include:

  •  Building self esteem by providing a unique and nurturing and inspiring place where boys can interact with civic-minded, conscientious and courageous men.
  •  Helping boys discover and develop their individual strengths, talents and gifts.
  •  Challenging boys to live responsibly and accountably to have a meaningful impact in the world.
  •   Giving boys hope, confidence and encouragement to identify and pursue goals, careers and dreams.

One example is the Gatson siblings, Caleb and ZZ. They are members of our Future Heroes program and they have demonstrated that RMRH is reaching its goals of supporting fatherless boys. When RMRH mentors first met Caleb and ZZ, they were being disruptive in school and disobeying their mother. Today, they are both doing well academically, socially and at home. ZZ says he is now more responsible and he realizes that success is in his future.  Caleb shares that RMRH has helped him improve and encouraged him to serve as a role model.

The Gatson siblings are one example of how RMRH is doing good work and w are very appreciative that The Downing Family Foundation has been a generous partner.

“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being,
let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” ~William Penn
